Summary

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is prevalent in the perinatal period (prevalence rates ~7%), but many people remain undiagnosed and untreated for OCD causing significant distress and impairing functioning during the perinatal transition to parenthood. Despite its high prevalence and impact on attachment, functioning, and parental confidence, perinatal OCD can be frequently misdiagnosed as generalized anxiety, postpartum depression, or—most concerningly—psychosis. This advanced training provides clinicians with a deep, clinically grounded understanding of Perinatal OCD’s presentation, risk factors, diagnostic nuances, and gold-standard treatment protocols. Participants will learn how intrusive thoughts manifest specifically in pregnancy and postpartum, how to assess obsessions and compulsions and distinguish severity and risk, and how to conduct evidence-based assessments that follow best-practice perinatal guidelines. The training emphasizes differential diagnosis, safety assessment and evidence-based treatments for OCD including exposure-based interventions. Practical tools, scripts, and case examples will be incorporated throughout to ensure participants leave with the skillset to recognize and address OCD in real-world perinatal settings.
