Summary

Utilizing an actual case example from the presenter’s own files, this webinar explores the connection between early trauma and later perinatal psychotic delusions that distort a mother’s thinking to such an extent that she would take the life of her infant, believing it is truly in the best interests of that child. Displays of maternal love and protection within the context of altruistic filicide will be described, along with the challenges of expert testimony regarding establishing insanity in cases of altruistic filicide driven by the delusions of postpartum psychosis. This is webinar #2 in the 2026 PSI Advisory Council Webinar Series.
