Summary

This session will focus on building knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide culturally humble and responsive care birthing and parenting people. By promoting cultural humility, providers and birth workers can build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds and communities, reduce power imbalances, and empower patients and families to make informed decisions about their healthcare. Webinar begins at 1pm EASTERN Time.

Title: Cultural Humility in Perinatal Mental Health

Session Outline:

Introduction: What is cultural humility?
Differentiating between cultural competency and cultural humility
Review and discuss cultural humility from perspectives of oppression, privilege, and marginaliztion
Discuss tools, resources and ways one can lead with a lens of cultural humility
Conclusion

Objectives:

Understand and define cultural humility
Differentiate between cultural competency and cultural humility
Discuss approaches to reduce power of imbalances and promote patient autonomy
