Hello! My name is Regina Gurley, and on Saturday, June 22, 2019 I will be participating in the annual Postpartum Support International fundraising event, Climb Out of the Darkness, to promote awareness, prevention, and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing.  The core mission of Postpartum Support International is to support moms & dads, community programs, and healthcare providers as we join forces to tackle this common, yet often debilitating disorder that affects more women than you might think.

Did you know 1 in 5 women will experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder? And, for women of color, that number jumps to nearly 1 out of every 3 women.  According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, maternal suicide EXCEEDS hemorrhage and hypertensive disorders as a cause of maternal mortality.

Postpartum Support International’s Climb Out of the Darkness is the world’s largest event for raising awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, while raising money and building community.  Every penny raised at this event will go directly back to support moms right here in NC--moms in our own back yard.  The motto of Postpartum Support International truly says it all: You are not alone.
