Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page for the 2019 Climb Out of the Darkness team in Savannah! 

This is an annual fundraiser for Postpartum Support International (PSI), an organization I’ve volunteered with for about 4 years. The event is held annually around the world on or near the longest day of the year to shine the most light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders – more simply, we walk to raise awareness about mental health issues related to motherhood such as postpartum depression and anxiety. This issue is super close to my heart since the majority of my therapy practice right now focuses on new, expectant, and hopeful moms.

Our walk last year was so amazing – despite the 100+ degree heat, we had an awesome crowd of local moms, families, and supporters (plus the local news!). Even more awesome: we were 1 of 13 Climbs hosted in Georgia, and we helped make our state the most money of ANY STATE at over $20K. Still pretty pumped about that.

The bad news is, we need it here like crazy. While postpartum depression is still the #1 complication of childbirth in the US, Georgia ranked last year as having the worst maternal mortality rate of all 50 states, predominantly among women of color. Lack of insurance, lack of access to health care, lack of mental health education for providers, not to mention regular old poverty, racism, and sexism – it all plays a part. We have an extra long way to go but hopefully this event can help raise some money, raise awareness in Savannah (where again, we need it BAD), and show our local moms and families some support. 

So this is why I’m posting this long-winded appeal. Please consider supporting us in these ways!
