My name is Sondra Dawes and I am the Program Coordinator of the Priscilla Project, Jericho Road Community Health Center's Maternal Child Health program. We work with expecting moms throughout their pregnancy, provide doula services, breastfeeding support, postpartum depression screenings, and in-home parent-child development visits. We work with any woman who needs support during her pregnancy. Most of our clients are refugee women who are having their first baby in the United States. The statistic of 1 in every 7 women experience a perinatal mood disorder is true for this population as well, but due to language barriers, lack of transportation, and difficulty finding child care, our clients have difficulty joining postpartum depression support groups in the community. By being a partner in the Climb Out of the Darkness, we are hoping to use the funds to host a monthly postpartum depression support group for our clients in our office. Thank you for choosing to support families in WNY!
Postpartum Support International's Climb Out of the Darkness is the world's largest event for raising awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, while raising money and building community.
