I began my recovery from postpartum depression and anxiety in April 2017, when my daughter was three months old.  I had always longed to be a mommy, but I felt like I was barely keeping my head above water.  My mind constantly raced and I was certain that I would never be myself again.  A lactation consultant recognized my symptoms and encouraged me to get help.  I remember just crying on the phone with her because I knew something wasn’t right, but seeking help seemed like defeat.  I didn’t want to have postpartum depression.  I was so ashamed and felt alone.

Thankfully, I did seek help and instead of defeat and shame, there was hope.  I will never forget when the therapist I spoke with, who specialized in perinatal mood disorders, said to me that I was not alone and that I would not be like this forever.  I am so grateful that trained professionals were able to recognize my symptoms and treated me with compassion.  It changed my life and my family’s life.  Praise God, and to Him be the glory forever!
