Nearly four years ago, we welcomed our youngest child on what would be the last few days of my mother's life. Just four weeks prior we said goodbye to her mother and just six weeks after, my husband's grandfather. Whilst this was undoubtedly one of the darkest and most pivotal times in my life, I look back very blessed to have the support of my doctors, nurses, friends, and family throughout this time. I did not seek help nor did I know it was even available to me, but due to the challenging circumstances in which our daughter was born, we were given those resources. Knowing I had symptoms of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety in my previous pregnancies, our team of doctors proactively had me start medications, join support groups, yoga, and offered counseling once my mother did pass. To this day I don't know how I was able to put one foot in front of the other, but step-by-step, we made it together.

When my oldest was born and I had started to experience symptoms, I thought that I just had to get over it and deal with it. I went to my mother, the absolute closest person in my life, and that was her advice. It wasn't that she didn't care or didn't hear me, that's simply what she had to do and the advice she was given when my siblings and I were born. She was strong and I would be too. Just push through. We MUST stop this cycle and share this knowledge and support for each and every mama.

For the second year I am proud to assist in organizing and participating in Postpartum Support International's Climb Out of the Darkness fundraiser walk. This year funds will primarily be used to provide training and resources on PMADS to local health care providers, mothers, and their families. While I have made a personal goal to raise $500 for this phenomenal cause, I encourage you to donate if you can, but most importantly, you are welcome to climb along side us! Feel free to share the link and spread the word!
